4. A Gift from the Past to the Future
    과거로 부터 미래로의 선물

When you visit a place and see this symbol, you are visiting a World Heritage Site.
당신이 한 장소를 방문하고 그리고 이 기호를 볼때, 당신은 세계 문화유산 장소를 방문하고 있는 것입니다.

Beginning of the World Heritage Preservation Movement

In the 1950s, the Egyptian government decided to build the Aswan High Dam, but (building it) would have flooded (the valley containing the Abu Simbel Temples), (a treasure of the ancient Egyptian civilization).

Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes

The sites include (the Geomunoreum lava tube system, Seongsan Ilchulbong, and Mt. Halla). These three sites were selected as World Heritage Sites / because of their extreme beauty and geological value.

In addition, the island is also rich / in myths and folk tales, attracting (curious travelers from all over the world).

One of these popular myths is about Sanbangsan, (a huge rock formation / near the eastern coast).

In anger, he shot an arrow into the sky.
분노하여, 그는 하늘에 대고 화살을 날렸습니다.

It is interesting / that the size of Sanbangsan is exactly (the same) as that of Baengnokdam on the top of Mt. Halla.

The Route of Santiago de Compostela

The Sydney Opera House

You might think / that a site must have natural beauty or a very long history to be a World Heritage Site.

The Lavaux Vineyard Terraces

Stretching for about 30 kilometers along the shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland, the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces were placed on the list / in the same year as the Sydney Opera House.
스위스 제네바 호수연안을 따라 약 30킬로가량 뻗어 있는, 라보지구 포도밭은 리스트에 올랐습니다 ... 시드니 오페라 하우스와 같은 해에 말입니다.


Although the vineyard is mostly a natural site, being fields where grapes are grown, it is a World Cultural Heritage Site, not a Natural one.
비록 포도밭은 대부분 자연적인 장소임에도 불구하고, 일종의 포도가 재배되어지는 밭 이죠, 그것은 세계 문화유적지 입니다.

Through these World Heritage Sites, we have seen only a small part of (what our planet has to offer and what human beings have achieved).

There are, no doubt, many more to come.
